He is a well-known numismatic specialist of the Great Mongol Empire, Chagataids, Juchids and Hulaguids states, the pre- and post-Mongolian numismatics of the East.

Since 2019, a numismatic research adviser of the “Restoration of historical sites of the Kultobe settlement” project.

Pavel Nikolayevich is a researcher at the department of the antiquity and medieval epoch, A.K.Margulan Institute of Archeology. Previously, the scientist worked at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow), at the S. Mardzhani Institute of History, AC RT (Kazan) and other scientific organizations.

One of the most important areas of P. N. Petrov are work with archaeologists, advising on the reconstruction the origin and development of money and goods.

His research publications include Mongolian history period in Eurasia, Jochi numismatics and problems of numismatics development in Chagataid state.
