Professor, Dr.-Engineer Michael Jansen is the founding Rector and current Professor of the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech). In 2012, he created the «Mohenjo-Daro Research Center» at the University, and is also the director of the GUtech Indian Ocean Research Center and a leading UNESCO expert. He is also a professor at the RWTH University of Aachen. He is a member of the UNESCO International Advisory Committee on Pakistan and Afghanistan, as well as a senior expert of the International Council for the Protection of Monuments and Places of Interest (ICOMOS) on the assessment of the state of preservation of World heritage sites. His many years of field experience in the field of documentation covers territories from the plains of the Indus River (Mohenjo-Daro), the Arabian Sea region (Al-Balid / Oman) and the Hindu Kush ranges (Jam, Balkh and Bamyan) to lost cities in the vast steppes of Central Asia along the ancient Silk Road (Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan). In the field of heritage documentation at the RWTH University of Aachen, Professor Jansen was one of the first to introduce digital documentation and visualization methods on the territory of archaeological sites (i.e. in Mohenjo-Daro/Pakistan, 1978-1985). He was the director of the RWTH Documentation and Preservation Center in Aachen. Professor Jansen is the author of numerous books, including «Mohenjo-Daro». In 1987, the President of Pakistan presented him with the National Award «Sitara-e-Imtiaz» («Star of Distinction»).
