According to the axonometric plan of Turkestan and archive photos the city had a defensive wall and six city gates. The zigzag streets divide the city into several parts. Houses and industrial premises were built of clay-bricks with flat bulrush roofs. It was attached to each other and was located along the streets. Fragments of pavement with different type of preservation dating from XIX – early XX centuries were identified by archaeologists in the ancient settlement of Kultobe in 2019. All Kultobe streets are made of compacted sand mixed with ash. Routes could be used for some time. As evidence, the renovation that was made on every side of the streets.
The particular interest is the Kultobe trade street with a width about 9 m. On the street shops and workshops for production of different goods were situated. According to written sources, Turkestan shops are: open tends, lean on clay fences and the streets were narrow and dark. At the end of the streets, as a rule, a white material was pulled. It was made for freshness on the street during the heat season. The Kultobe pavement fragment shows many details of the topography of ancient Turkestan.
